ABSTRACT :

A Smart city is the development of an urban that encloses citizens’ needs in a secure and sustainable way. All cars, machines, and buildings are connected to transmitting data continuously for developing and improving different smart city applications. The smart city has developed energy, environmental, and healthcare services. It is also continuously providing new services to all citizens.

This thesis is concerned with the management of smart city applications using IoT. Three systems are considered in the work. These are the smart meter system, the air quality monitoring system, and the ambulance request system. Each system consists of a few nodes and subsystems. In a smart meter system, an electricity supply is monitored by measuring its related parameters (voltage, current, power, energy consumption, cost estimation) and issuing SMS notification using PZEM-004T, Arduino Mega, Raspberry Pi, and Node-red platforms. In the air quality monitoring system, environmental measures (gases, dust, temperature, and humidity) are collected and analyzed using Arduino Nano, Raspberry Pi, and Nod-red platforms. The third system is the ambulance request system, where a system is devised to allow patients to request ambulance using Raspberry Pi, Android applications, and Node-red platform. The system has the capability of providing the shortest route to both the ambulance and the hospital that is ready to receive the emergency case.

The correct operation of each system is obtained with the important data being stored in the related data center using a MySQL database. The whole system is then verified and has shown that the arrangements performed their related tasks successfully, the data are correctly displayed on devices’ monitors, and the transferred data to the database are identical to the measured ones.
