Wireless cellular networks are broadly spread worldwide for the period of the last two decades. Nowadays, in spite of wide spreading of the 4th generation (4G) systems, the 3rd Generation (3G) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is still widely used in many countries. In this Article , we discuss the cellular planning which is basically defined as a manner of connecting mobile stations to base stations in a specific geographic region.
WiMAP tool was used as a network planning simulator to model different network components such as sites, clients and point along with testing capacity and coverage to meet reasonable network requirements.
The seminar includes a cellular planning for Baghdad and Shaqlawa Iraqi cities to investigate different terrestrial environments. The cellular plans are applied using 3G (UMTS) and 4G (LTE) technologies and different measurement constrains were discussed for various scenarios in which different number of sites and coverage radius distances are implemented.
