on Thursday 28 June 2018, the M.Sc. Student Mohammad Ammar Modhafer from the Department of Networks Engineering earned an M.Sc degree for her thesis (Network Protection Mechanisms and Measures Against Various attacks).
The project suggests a perimeter security model using proactive and reactive methodologies. It was tested against multiple attack scenarios using penetration testing and vulnerability assessment in order to see the response and effectiveness of the proposed model implementation. Also, performance evaluation was made to choose the intrusion detection system for the implementation. Further evaluation was made through testing against distribute denial of service attack.
The model was implemented using virtualization and Docker technologies to cut the hardware cost and provide a modular solution. For the network environment, GNS3 was used for network emulation.
The thesis has been approved. with a very good grade.
